Age & Rain Policies

Age Policy

According to the Youth Employment Act in the state of Arizona, youth under the age of 16 are NOT allowed to work in the field of construction.

Further, minors who are 16 or 17 years old are allowed to be on our sites, but are restricted in the following ways:

  • Youth cannot use power tools.
  • Youth cannot be on the rooftops.

Volunteers must be 15 years old to volunteer in Habitat ReStores.

All minors must have a waiver signed by a parent or legal guardian.

Rain Policy

Much of our construction can still occur even if there is a light drizzle. However, heavy rain or rain accompanied by lightning is not safe for our volunteers. Habitat’s Director of Construction makes the determination of whether or not to build. Extremely wet conditions may also potentially cancel a build. Some indoor activity may continue despite light rain.

The following guidelines will determine whether or not building is cancelled on your scheduled day:

  • Workday Morning - If rain is occurring or imminent at our build sites, a voice message will be recorded on our Rain Hotline at least one hour before scheduled build time.

Rain Hotline: 602.262.8679
