New Habitat Community in Avondale
posted May 2009
Habitat for Humanity Central Arizona will begin the infrastructure on its new Avondale development this month with the anticipation of home construction starting in late summer or early fall.
The subdivision, is located near 127th Ave and Florence in Avondale, is named Hillcrest Village. It includes 37-single family detached homes. The subdivision also features a community park.
Habitat was the recipient of t he Maricopa County Consortium HOME grant award which assisted with land acquisition costs. Habitat also received two additional grants for infrastructure and land development costs. Federal Home Loan Bank awarded $740K and Nina Mason Pulliam Charitable Trust awarded $150K.
Habitat would not be able to accomplish our goal of eliminating poverty housing without the support of a strong foundation built by caring hands and the funds donated by generous hearts.
IKEA Donation
posted May 2009
IKEA of Tempe offers a wide variety of well-designed, functional and affordable products. In recognition of Earth Day, IKEA wanted to do something special, not only for our environment but to also help families in need manage energy resources. IKEA chose Habitat for Humanity Central Arizona for this special donation.
Habitat believes that every person deserves a simple, decent and affordable place to live, and that families do not receive a hand out, but become self-sufficient through a hand up.
With a focus on sustainability and energy resource management, IKEA Tempe donated compact fluorescent bulbs to local Habitat families. CFL bulbs use about 75% less energy than a standard bulb and last longer. The bulbs also produce less heat, so they are safer to operate and can cut energy costs associated with home cooling. This donation will help reduce energy costs and increase affordability to Habitat families.
“IKEA believes it’s essential to have an impact in the local community. We take great pride in our partnership with Habitat. Additionally, we’re excited to provide this meaningful donation to create a better everyday life for the many people participating in the Habitat program," said Jackie Terry, public relations manager of IKEA Tempe.
Faith Day Celebration
posted May 2009
Habitat for Humanity Central Arizona is a Christian Ministry who partners closely with the Faith community. We would like to invite you to attend our “Faith Day” celebration as we recognize our faith partners currently building in our Oro Vista subdivision in Phoenix. Together in prayer, we will give thanks for the ability and opportunity to serve God by helping families in need of simple, decent and affordable housing.
Faith Day Celebration Prayer: May today there be peace within. May you trust God that you are exactly where you are meant to be. May you not forget the infinite possibilities that are born of faith. May you use those gifts that you have received, and pass on the love that has been given to you. May you be content knowing you are a child of God. Let his presence settle into your bones, and allow your soul the freedom to sing, dance, praise and love. It is there for each and every one of us.
This year the celebration will focus on Tithing. Christine Odom, senior director of tithe for Habitat for Humanity International, will be our keynote speaker. She is going to share the impact of our affilaites tithing and will present Habitat for Humanity Central Arizona with a special tithe award.
Habitat's Faith Day Celebration will be held on Saturday, May 16, 2009 at Oro Vista from 10:45 A.M. - 11:15 A.M.

Habitat ReStore Seeks
New Committee Membersposted May 2009
Habitat for Humanity Central Arizona is seeking volunteers to serve on the committee to market and promote the ReStores. What are ReStores? They are discount home improvement centers—three stores conveniently located throughout the Valley—which offer great deals on new and gently-used merchandise. Donations are accepted from manufacturers, businesses, contractors and individuals. Everything from kitchen cabinets to flooring, appliances to tools, painting supplies to furniture—every day is a treasure hunt full of discounts! Proceeds from ReStore sales support the mission of Habitat for Humanity Central Arizona Homes!
What will the committee do? It will advise the ReStores regarding merchandising, advertising, public relations, operations, etc.—any activities related to help improve ReStore sales which further the Habitat mission. So if you have background in these areas, we welcome your participation in the committee. There’s minimal time commitment, too— one meeting monthly. If you are interested, please contact Angie Taylor at 602.262.8655 or ataylor@habitataz.org. We hope to hear from you soon!!
